China Clay Country Park - Events Du Maurier Festival - How China Clay Changed the World - Guided Tours and Lunch Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th May 2008 -11am. Tour starts both days from the main entrance to the China Clay Country Park at 11am. £8.50 includes guide and traditional Cornish pasty lunch. Follow the exploits of William Cookworthy and his successors as the china clay industry evolved from a cottage industry to an international commodity, used in over 500 different industrial processes, from toothpaste to computers. Visitors will be given a guided tour through the history of the industry right up to the modern day, when the tour ends on a spectacular viewing platform high above a working clay pit. Creative Links Opening Event - Saturday 1st March 2008 A family event to celebrate the opening of the first sculpture trail in Cornwall with a range of activities including walking and cycling trips, art workshops, heritage talks and activities where members of the community have been instrumental in the design of three sculptures. It is also the opening of the Creative Links Exhibition at the China Clay Country Park; a range of artwork produced in local schools and by the community groups working on the project will be displayed in the Country Park' Foyer Galley space throughout March. Refreshments and a range of arts and heritage activities are free and available to all. Saturday 1st March 2008: 2pm - 4pm (walks and cycle rides may begin earlier - contact the Country Park for more details). No booking required.
