March 2023

An intriguing exhibition is currently on display at Wheal Martyn Clay Works - ‘The Beautifully Mundane’ - which depicts the beauty of everyday life in Cornwall.

The exhibition is a collection of photographs by Michael Redmond, and features words in English and Cornish from contributors including Philippa Perry, Richard Coles and Sathnam Sanghera. It explores the beauty in ordinary, everyday life, which can be often overlooked in favour of the picture postcard version of Cornwall.

Sian Powell, Exhibition and Engagement Officer at Wheal Martyn, said: ‘Our museum tells important stories of Cornwall’s heritage and how china clay has shaped the lives of communities throughout Cornwall today. We’re delighted to have this fantastic exhibition on display, showing a different side to the Cornwall that is often presented by art and media.’

The exhibition is on display in the Roger Preston Gallery until Monday 10th April, 10.30am – 4.00pm. Entry to the exhibition is included within normal museum admission.

It is also the last chance for residents of Cornwall to purchase their Cornwall Residents Pass; the offer, which ends on Friday 31st March, allows local people to buy their annual entry to the museum for a discounted rate of just £9.00 per adult and £5.00 per child. With a packed schedule of activities programmes and exhibitions throughout the year, the pass is a great way to engage with Cornwall’s heritage.
