Outdoor grounds and shop now open 12 April update: Wheal Martyn's outdoor spaces and gift shop are now open. We will open fully from 17 May, in line with the proposed roadmap. 12 April From 12 April, the outdoor grounds of Wheal Martyn are open for visitors to enjoy. This includes the woodlands, nature and historic trails, and areas such as the beautiful settling tanks. The gift shop will be open, and takeaway drinks and food from the cafe will be available. We ask that you pre-book tickets online before your visit. 17 May From 17 May, we hope to reopen Wheal Martyn fully, including the launch of our brand new gallery and facilities, along with Kurt Jackson's new Clay Country exhibition. Please see the details below for the measures in place. Pre-booking will still be required. You will notice some changes and precautions we have put in place to maximise your safety on your visit. Our extensive historic grounds and largely outdoor museum offer a safe space to reflect, soak up the natural environment and enjoy some sense of normality away from crowds of people in a wonderful historic setting. The layout of Wheal Martyn allows us to offer an experience that avoids close contact with other visitors in a natural way. Tickets All visitors to Wheal Martyn now need to pre-book timed arrival slots online. If you are a Residents Pass holder, you also need to pre-book a slot, either online or by calling 01726 850362. This will ensure social distancing guidelines can be maintained. Once you arrive, you can stay as long as you like, within our opening hours. Please ensure you print your tickets or save them on your mobile, ready to show on arrival. Our booking system will ask if you would like to Gift Aid your ticket. If you are a UK tax payer, please consider opting for this – it enables our charity to claim an additional 25% of your ticket value from the government at no extra cost to you. We will be offering free entry to NHS workers, but pre-booking remains essential. This does not include other family members. Our Cornwall Residents Pass will be available to purchase between 12 April - 17 May 2021, offering discounted entry. Find out more here. Opening hours 10am until 5pm. Last admission at 4pm. Parking Parking is available in the main car park. If it is not convenient to park in this area, please drive along the front of the main building to the coach park where there is more parking available. Entering Wheal Martyn Our door will be pinned open. Please sanitise your hands on arrival. When you enter the atrium, you will see hand sanitiser stations. Throughout your visit, please adhere to social distancing guidelines. Take note of our safety notices, including floor spacing markers. We will provide you with a visitor guide sheet to help you navigate Wheal Martyn safely. Please ensure that you have your printed tickets to hand, or displayed on your mobile, ready to show on arrival. Walking around the museum We have marked one-way routes in all internal spaces and the majority of the outdoors too. Where we have short two-way sections outdoors, you can see well ahead of you, enabling you to proceed when the pathway is clear. Visitor instructions are displayed around the museum and grounds. Please follow these as you explore, to ensure you can adhere to social distancing guidelines. Face-masks are required in indoor spaces Only touch surfaces when essential. Please respect our team and other visitors. We have trained our staff to be COVID-safe. All doors and gates are pinned open where possible. Play area and interactive features In the current situation we have had to make some changes: The play area and children's trail is now open. However, these guidelines must be followed - for example, children must sanitise their hands before and after using the equipment. Most of our interactive features are currently unavailable to reduce the risk of transmitting the virus – we know this is disappointing but please bear with us at this time. Your admission is valid for 12 months, so we hope you can return again to enjoy these features. Please ask for a return pass at the admission desk. To reflect the fact that these features are limited we have taken the decision not to implement our planned increase in admission fee this year. Cafe Takeaway drinks and food are available from the cafe. Cleaning Our cleaning regimes have been enhanced including regular cleaning of touch points and public spaces. We are unable to clean the historic features, museum displays and objects but it is safe for you to enjoy all of these without touching them. Toilets Our toilets are located at the main entrance, and are cleaned at regular intervals. Gift shop Our gift shop is open. We ask that you use contactless payments for any purchases where possible, and follow the one-way system. Dogs Dogs on leads are welcome throughout the site. With your cooperation and support, we look forward to welcoming you back to Wheal Martyn. If you have any further questions, please give us a call on 01726 850362.
