This May half term, Wheal Martyn are celebrating bands and choirs! Come along and get involved in a variety of activities throughout the week.
Come along on Monday 27 and Wednesday 29 May to design a Clay Country Band’s medal! Competitions including the West of England Band festival held at Bugle since 1912 are still hotly contested competitions to this day. Why not design your very own Clay Country band medal fit for a competition winner?
Did you know that Cornwall has had a strong musical tradition for centuries? Bands provided an opportunity to socialise and share a common love for music. On Thursday 30 May, 10.30am – 3.30pm, come and join Wheal Martyn’s very own Clay Country band and make your own musical instruments out of junk! Toe tappingly good fun for all the family.
Help us raise money for Wheal Martyn and leave your creative stamp on the museum by decorating a ceramic tile for our facilities on Tuesday 28 May. All tiles will be installed on a wall at Wheal Martyn in January 2020. Suggested donation £1.
On Friday 31 May, join Badger Forest School in the atmospheric Wheal Martyn grounds for spring themed outdoor activities, including campfire cooking, nature crafts, shelter building and mini-beast hunts. This will run between 11am – 1pm, and tickets cost £8 per child and £4 per adult. To book, click here.
Nikita Brown, Exhibition and Engagement Officer at Wheal Martyn, said, ‘We are really excited to be celebrating bands and choirs this May half term, as Cornwall has such a strong musical tradition. Why not pop along and learn more about Cornwall’s band and choir history?’
