What is a Climate Café?

A climate café is a welcoming place to come together and to share concerns regarding the climate crisis.

The aim is to help reduce loneliness and isolation that can turn these concerns into “eco-anxiety” and “climate depression”.

This is not a place for debate or arguments on whether the climate emergency exists. People should leave feeling better than before and hopefully inspired!

The first climate cafe will be about welcoming people, hearing their concerns and what they are most interested in discussing going forward. In future, we hope to invite local groups to speak and share their work and help people feel energized and ready to take small steps themselves.

What to expect:

  • Welcome….
A chance to meet people, establish a friendly environment and of course enjoy a tea and cake!

  • Sharing and understanding….
Share what you have been thinking and how you are feeling about the climate crisis. Everyone who wants to share their thoughts will be given the opportunity to be heard. There are no wrong opinions, but we are working from the belief that climate change is real.

  • Ideas for action….
An opportunity to think about things we can all do to make a difference - but don’t worry, there will be no pressure to be spurred into action, we understand it may just be helpful to give space to considering some of the possible solutions and to know they exist. We want people to leave energized instead of helpless!

  • Summing up…
Some time to share closing comments, summarise what has been spoken about in the session and welcome ideas for future meetings. We want to hear about how those present want the Climate Café to evolve and what it might explore and focus on moving forward.
