Become a Friend

By becoming a Friend of Wheal Martyn, you are supporting our work, which is driven by our purpose of preserving and keeping alive Cornwall’s china clay mining heritage, which has shaped our world.

As the only china clay mining museum in the UK, our work is important; for example, we care for and preserve over 2,500 objects and artefacts, preserve a Scheduled Ancient Monument (the Victorian Clay Works), provide educational opportunities, and inspire communities by generating engagement with our heritage.

How to become a Friend

To become a Friend, all we ask for is an annual donation. Our suggested minimum annual donation is £25 per person, but any regular contribution, big or small, will be hugely valued in helping us to further the work of the museum.

You can also give a Friends membership as a gift – a present that lasts all year and adds that extra special, thoughtful touch.

    Our museum

China clay mining has shaped the landscape, lives of people and economy of mid-Cornwall for over 250 years. It is Cornwall’s largest mining industry. A fully Accredited Museum, we are based within two Victorian china clay works, now a Scheduled Ancient Monument. We tell the story of this fascinating industry and the people who worked and lived in the shadows of Cornwall’s iconic ‘white pyramids’.
