Our Inspiring Minds and Miners for Our Future project went on tour to London for the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition 2026.

Gemma and Sian, our Education and Engagement Officers, took the train to London, along with a heavy load of resources to share with families on the Sunday of the Summer Science Exhibition. The day was such a success, with lots of happy families who genuinely enjoyed discovering more about Wheal Martyn’s history and Cornwall’s unique geology.

The day attracted some 2,393 visitors and an amazing array of organisations showcasing their scientific innovations.

Gemma Martin, Education Officer at Wheal Martyn shared “We were flat-out busy from the minute the doors opened until it closed at 6.00pm – our voices were gradually fading to a croak! It was fantastic to meet so many families who loved getting involved in our activities. We offered props and activities to showcase the history of china clay in Cornwall; we had a mineral-sort challenge to find out more about the amazing rocks beneath our feet that could hold the key to our greener, cleaner future and our magnetic block Minecraft Challenges were incredibly popular! It was so much fun”.
