Fundraising events

Fundraising events are an important way of securing the funds we need to develop the work of our charity.

We currently run two annual fundraising events.

Pre-loved clothes fashion show and sale

Our fashion shows are one of the highlights of the year! The event is all about encouraging environmentally friendly fashion, through the up-cycling and re-use of pre-loved clothes.

The night kicks off with a fashion show featuring our volunteer models, followed by a sale of quality pre-loved clothing and a chance to enjoy a glass of wine or locally distilled gin!

The event is generously supported by Santander Bank, who match everything we raise up to the value of £1,500, meaning that every pound you give is worth two.

Sponsored walk

Our annual sponsored walk provides an opportunity to take in some of the fantastic scenery around Cornwall’s clay country while helping to raise funds for the museum.clay country view

Funds will help us to buy a defibrillator for Wheal Martyn, and for Treverbyn Community Hall to carry out essential annual maintenance on their own defibrillator, which costs approximately £350 per year. This is a much needed piece of life saving equipment for both us and the community hall, which will be of value to our communities.

The walk is typically around four miles long.

We ask participants to seek sponsorship in support of Wheal Martyn, from friends, relatives and colleagues.

    Our museum

China clay mining has shaped the landscape, lives of people and economy of mid-Cornwall for over 250 years. It is Cornwall’s largest mining industry. A fully Accredited Museum, we are based within two Victorian china clay works, now a Scheduled Ancient Monument. We tell the story of this fascinating industry and the people who worked and lived in the shadows of Cornwall’s iconic ‘white pyramids’.
