February 2022

We warmly invite everyone to a relaxed day, exploring the new sensory experiences that have been created as part of the new ‘More Than Words’ project. Join us for the free launch event on Saturday 19 March, 10am - 4pm. Everyone is welcome.

'More Than Words' is a Sensory Trust project funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, thanks to National Lottery players. We are exploring ways to make heritage and culture more accessible to all, regardless of age or ability. Working in partnership with Sensory Trust and Flookan - a local community clay hub - we ran workshops with local groups and have been inspired by people who might normally face barriers to visit such a heritage venue. For example, people with disabilities, impairments, long term conditions and their families and carers. As a result, we have created some sensory rich interpretation for everyone to enjoy, which will remain at Wheal Martyn for the next few years.

Join us for the ‘More Than Words’ launch day on Saturday 19 March and explore Wheal Martyn using the senses. Spot the tactile sensory markers, inviting you to touch, listen, see or smell interesting things. Take a seat, pause and explore the new accessible benches, created with beautiful tiles made within the workshops. Listen to the sounds and explore the textures of Wheal Martyn’s industrial and natural heritage landscape. Discover more about our iconic Cornish Alps and get hands on with our clay workshop to create your own mini Sky Tip with the Flookan team. Enjoy our new interactive sensory story and discover how much China Clay is in your everyday!

This is a FREE event, please book your ticket here.
