September 2021

We will be opening our doors for free on Saturday 18th September as part of this year’s Heritage Open Days.

The Wheal Martyn Clay Works Heritage Open Days Festival will celebrate environmental sustainability through fantastic local history and culture with a full day of activities, workshops, trails, talks, stalls, food, music and more! Visitors will also be able to explore the beautiful woodland site and historic clay works.

Highlights include foraging walks, art workshops, storytelling, campfire fun, dance performances, archive film shows, live music and even the chance to learn how to crimp a pasty and speak Cornish.

This event is part of New Wave, a series of innovative, dynamic, youth-led events being produced for this year’s Heritage Open Days festival. New Wave is a project by Heritage Open Days, which is coordinated nationally by the National Trust and supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

We are really excited about our Heritage Open Days Festival!  Our Focus Group of young people have created a fantastically full day where visitors will be able to try out activities throughout the whole day, from foraging and pasty crimping, to expanding the mind with dance, specialist talks and storytelling.  We are so lucky to have such a large, outdoor site to welcome everyone for the day.

The festival is from 10:30am to 5:00pm on Saturday 18 September.  Booking is advisable.  You can turn up on the day but you may have to wait a short while. Some workshops are on at specific times and you are advised to sign up to a time slot on your arrival.
